3rd Down and Forever

This nonfiction book traces the professional life of Joe Don Looney, a gifted running back whose time on the field was shaped by his service in Vietnam, his drug use, and his later turn toward meditation. The narrative ends with his death in an accident. Through this life, the author portrays a player whose talent and charisma never fully matched what many expected of him, and who became known as football's most notorious rebel.
