404 Demons #034

In the Edo period, the gods gave Momotaro a job: wipe out the demons that took hold of people and drained their life force through parasitic "bugs." With his three loyal vassals, Kensuke, Saruhiko and Yukijiro, he fought hard, until a single, immensely powerful demon came close to destroying the whole group.

Dying, Momotaro heard a god speak. He was to strike that demon down, and to make it possible, power would gather inside a peach, from which he would be born again. One vassal, chosen by the god, would be made immortal and left to guard him while he slept.

Centuries pass and the story jumps to the modern Reiwa era, where the reborn Momotaro finally wakes. The surprise is his new body, which turns out to belong to a chicken. His demon hunting starts over from there, in a world very different from the one he left.

This volume comes from Mochi, the creator of Cuticle Detective Inaba and The Witch's Servant and the Demon Lord's Horn. It is a Japanese-flavored reincarnation fantasy with plenty of action.
