A Distant Episode

This collection brings together a selection of Paul Bowles's short fiction, chosen by Bowles himself. He is an American writer whose work has drawn admiration from a range of distinct voices, including Norman Mailer, Allen Ginsberg, Truman Capote, William S. Burroughs, Gore Vidal, and Jay McInerney, and he is regarded as a figure with a devoted following.

Bowles also composed music and spent much of his life in Tangier, Morocco, a setting that shaped much of his writing and its interest in North Africa. He is also known for the novel The Sheltering Sky.
