Accelerating Digital Transformation

Marking ten years since Software Center was founded, this volume collects some of the journal and conference papers its researchers published over that decade. The center is a partnership between 18 European companies and five Swedish universities, and the selected papers are those with the greatest impact and continuing relevance.

The chapters follow the five research themes that organize the center's work. The first, continuous delivery, focuses on helping companies consistently produce high-quality products with an appropriate level of automation. The second, continuous architecture, looks at how to keep architectural quality intact while working in more agile ways and on shorter development cycles.

The third theme, metrics, studies how software processes, products and organizations can be understood, monitored and improved. The fourth, customer data and ecosystem-driven development, explores how companies can extract meaning from the large volumes of data that products in the field continuously generate. The final theme, AI engineering, addresses the difficulty many organizations face in deploying machine learning and deep learning models in industrial settings at production quality.

Each theme has its own part, opening with an introductory chapter and followed by a reprint of its most important papers. The book is aimed mainly at researchers and advanced professionals in software engineering who want an overview of progress in topics relevant to large-scale industrial software development and management, and who want to see how research benefits from close cooperation between industry and academia.
