Afterwards
About This Book
Every story has an afterwards, even when it does not have a happily ever after. Jaishree Misra's novel begins when Rahul Tiwari comes to Kerala from London for a short break, with no idea that his life is about to change. A single glance over the fence at his lovely, reserved neighbour Maya sets him on a path from which there is no turning back. Maya is suffocating in a loveless marriage with a suspicious husband, and she turns to Rahul for help. He finds himself becoming her friend, her partner and her co-conspirator, and finally, quite unexpectedly, her saviour. Together with Maya's one-year-old daughter, Anjali, they leave India, and for a while life seems to offer a fresh start. Then destiny steps in. Misra writes with her usual ease and insight about the power of love to transform people. She also explores the joy and heartbreak of giving yourself to another person, for better or for worse.
