Agent Most Wanted

This young readers edition retells the life of Virginia Hall, adapted from Sonia Purnell's adult bestseller A Woman of No Importance. Hall was a socialite from Baltimore whose wartime work did much to secure the Allied victory, yet her story has rarely been told. The Gestapo regarded her as the most perilous of the Allied spies.

Hall was recruited into Britain's Special Operations Executive and sent behind enemy lines in France. Although she had a prosthetic leg, she relied on her quick thinking and resourcefulness to rally the French resistance against the Nazi occupation.

The book blends three threads: the story of a woman whose abilities were dismissed in an era that rarely took women seriously, a tense spy adventure, and a view of one of the largest global conflicts in modern history. It is written for readers from elementary through middle school.
