Akira

Tetsuo is slipping toward madness as he tries to make sense of the strange powers that have recently awakened inside him. Each attempt to understand them pulls him deeper into his own mind, a journey through the hidden corners of his inner self.

Meanwhile, the scattered remnants of his military unit are storming the temple of Lady Miyako. In the middle of the chaos, Tetsuo perceives a presence made of raw energy. Its force overwhelms him, and he finds himself bowing before its source, the young emperor Akira.

Katsuhiro Ōtomo's comic was serialized in Japan and later reached English readers through Epic Comics, in a colored edition from 1992. The story unfolds in a rebuilt Neo-Tokyo and follows Tetsuo alongside his friend Kaneda, the leader of a biker gang.
