About this book
Revelation can be a puzzling text for Bible readers, who often find it both gripping and baffling. Interpreters have offered many approaches to unlocking it, among them futurist readings and historical-critical methods. Yet, according to Brian Tabb, none of these fully shows why the Apocalypse still speaks to the church today.
Tabb reads Revelation within the whole canon of Scripture and presents it as the high point of biblical prophecy. He traces how earlier Old Testament prophecies and recurring patterns reach their fulfillment in the reign of Jesus Christ, now and in the future. In this account, Christ overcomes his enemies, rescues his people, and renews all things.
The book works through central themes of biblical theology: the triune God, the identity of Christ's followers and opponents, God's purposes for salvation, judgment and restoration, and the authority of God's word. Tabb also examines how the book's symbolic visions shape a believer's view of the world, aligning it with what God has revealed to be true, good and beautiful. These visions, he argues, call Christians to live obediently and distinctively within their culture as faithful witnesses to Jesus.
