Aphro-ism

Sisters Aph and Syl Ko bring together this essay collection, which uses television, film and other pop culture moments as a starting point for thinking about race, animal advocacy and feminism. The writing is clear and direct, but it pushes readers to question their own assumptions.

The authors examine how contemporary activist movements often operate in isolation from one another, and they offer new conceptual tools for seeing how different forms of oppression are connected. They draw on Afrofuturism and black veganism to suggest possible paths forward for social change.
