Bad Witch Burning

Katrell can speak with the dead, and she wishes the gift paid better. She keeps her unemployed mother afloat, along with whichever deadbeat boyfriend is currently around, but the money never stretches far enough. Things get harder when something from beyond the living world starts paying attention to her, with a blunt warning: stop, or face the consequences.

Katrell has little choice but to call the ghosts' bluff. She knows what it is to go hungry, and she doesn't think the dead have much to teach her about that. Then one summoning goes wrong and brings someone back to life, and she sees that a living body is worth far more than a ghostly apparition. Warning or no warning, she has no plans to give up such a profitable business.

But magic always has a price, and dark forces are on their way to collect. Katrell must decide whether to accept a life of poverty or face the darkness before it catches up with her. This witchy, Black girl magic story is pitched at readers of Lovecraft Country and Candyman.
