Band Nerd

Twelve-year-old Lucy Carver lives for music. It is her escape from homework and from a home life thrown off-key by her father's alcoholism. When she starts seventh grade at Windley School of the Arts, a school with high academic standards and even higher artistic expectations, keeping everything in tune gets much harder.

Lucy is determined to take charge of her own life, and she pours all her energy into beating snobby Tolli Claybourne for first chair flute. As things at home and in her schoolwork spiral out of control, she grows desperate for a win. Just as she thinks everything is going her way, an accident leaves her unable to play, and her mother threatens to pull her out of the school over her poor grades. Lucy must either sabotage Tolli or give up on her dream.

Band Nerd is a coming-of-age story about music, family and friendship. It deals with resilience and with using your own voice to find harmony even when life is at its most discordant.
