About this book
Lieutenant Geoffrey Rapelje serves in Rogers' Rangers during the French and Indian War, and he has spent his life trying to outrun his father's heritage. His father's people are an indigenous nation, and Geoffrey was born in their village. When the British need to protect a fragile treaty with that nation, they send him to lead a ranger detachment back to the place he came from.
The village he remembers is gone. In its place is a land and a tribe devastated by something violent that no one can name. Geoffrey and his men set out across a wilderness already torn by bloodshed and betrayal, and they meet terrors that no ordinary war can explain.
This is a reimagined version of the colonial conflict, brutal and relentless, with courage, loyalty and sacrifice tested at every turn. The enemy is bent on wiping out a whole people, and to stop it Geoffrey will have to accept a dark truth about himself that he has refused to face for years.
Scott Sigler, author of Alive, delivers historical horror in the vein of Stephen Graham Jones, Daniel Kraus and Alma Katsu.
