About this book
Subtitled An Educator's Guidebook, this title by Sam Strickland collects more than 100 tactics, methods and teaching approaches for managing pupil behaviour. It is written for whole schools and for everyone who works in them, from senior and middle leaders to classroom teachers, early-career teachers and trainee teachers, whatever their experience.
The book is organised into three sections. The first looks at the school as a whole, which the author calls the Mothership, and at the part leaders at any level can play in shaping behaviour. The second turns to the Satellites, the key areas that together make up the school, and explains why middle leaders are so central to them. The third section zooms in to the classroom, focusing on the teacher's role and setting out a wide range of approaches teachers can use.
The tone is practical and supportive, offering help and advice in plain terms with no filler. Each strategy is short enough that a reader can take in a single approach in five to ten minutes, making the book easy to pick up and put to use.
