Behind the lines

This collection gathers roughly 200 letters and emails that have never been published before. They were written by American and foreign soldiers and by civilians who lived through armed conflict up close. The correspondence spans from the American Revolution through the attacks of September 11, 2001, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, letting readers hear from people in the middle of those events.
