Being Ace

Fourteen short stories move between science fiction, fantasy and contemporary settings, each built around asexual characters and the many forms love can take for them. Some tales centre on asexual romance, while others explore aromantic love, and together they give voice to people across the asexual spectrum.

The cast includes a wheelchair user who sets out to rescue her kidnapped girlfriend, a mermaid who cares more about her sisters than about any suitor, and a slayer whose virgin blood draws monsters to her. Other stories follow characters travelling through space, outwitting a water spirit bent on revenge, and making their way through haunted cemeteries.

Because each story has its own premise and voice, the collection shows that asexual people do not share one single story. Its range of tones and genres lets readers meet a wide variety of characters and identities within one book.
