About this book
This South African work is meant to start frank conversations that could drive social change and unity across racial lines. Mayekiso argues that white people who have tried to join the work of racial reconciliation often did so without rethinking their own outlook, relying on a thin understanding of Black life and a set of unexamined assumptions.
Drawing on the author's own years in Christian communities, along with contributions from people who also belong to those circles, the book looks at where religious spaces fall short when they fail to practise love, care and solidarity. It is not a religious text. Its concern is with principles that apply to everyone, and it is written for readers of every race.
The central aim is to help build a future free of structural racism, while staying candid about how hard it is to confront historical injustice. The author offers hope and points toward a path to a culture of Ubuntu.
