Blanket

Cat wakes up on a morning that should be bright, but the whole world looks dreary. Instead of facing the day, Cat wraps up in a blanket and stays out of sight. When Dog arrives, Dog slips under the blanket too, sits close, and simply listens to what Cat is worried about.

Dog's flashlight pushes back the dark and sets off laughter. The two friends turn their hideaway into a blanket fort, where they make shadow puppets and read storybooks for comfort. Dog also makes sandwiches so they can eat a picnic together. Step by step, Cat finds ways to cope, and the sadness slowly lifts.

This is Ruth Ohi's first wordless picture book, published by Groundwood Books. It shows how much a friend's company can mean on the days when all you want is to hide. Its text features include comics, comic strips and illustrations.
