Blood Rites

Harry Dresden, the only professional wizard listed in the Chicago phone book, has survived some truly awful jobs. This one starts out as a strange favor. His vampire acquaintance Thomas, a vain and flirtatious man whose honesty is always open to question, asks him to look into a problem on a film set. The production is an adult movie, and Harry has to go undercover to work the case.

The producer is convinced someone has cursed him. Yet the people actually dying are the women around him, and each death is more spectacular than the last. As the bodies pile up and suspicion lands on Harry himself, he has to work out who is behind the killings and why Thomas cares so much about the outcome.

The trail leads Harry into Thomas's own relatives, a hedonistic clan of vampires with a hunger for both pleasure and blood. Among them he finds out that the family has been guarding a secret, one that will upend his life and leave him unable to go back to how things were.

This is the sixth Dresden Files novel, mixing hard-boiled detective work, dark humor and supernatural danger in a Chicago where magic is real and most people have no idea.
