Bonaparte

Born in Corsica, Bonaparte was never truly a Frenchman. This study of Napoleon Bonaparte dispels several of the myths about the politician & commander in his field. Correlli Barnett sees Bonaparte as an ambitious demagogic politician first & foremost, & secondly as a military leader. In his view, Bonaparte's campaigns were primarily expedients to serve his political ambition. He does not believe there was a 'turning point' in Bonaparte's career after which his fortunes or abilities declined, but rather that there was a consistent pattern from the outset to the final catastrophe at Waterloo."
