Boost Creative Writing Pack

This pack gathers three titles from the Boost Creative Writing series, which is matched to the writing composition Programmes of Study in England's 2014 National Curriculum.

The activities are meant to strengthen core writing skills for children who learn more slowly. They also support pupils with special educational needs, who often need extra help before they feel confident as writers. The planning worksheets are open-ended frameworks rather than rigid templates, and they cover a wide range of forms, from short stories and poems to book reviews and newspaper reports.

Judith Thornby, a Learning Support Coordinator with considerable experience, wrote the material and put it through extensive trials. Testing has indicated that the sheets help children improve their writing, grow in self-assurance, and come to believe they can write.

Although the sheets were designed with SEN pupils in mind, they have also been used successfully with children of all abilities.
