About this book
Breathe, brother is a forty-five day guided journal built for Black men. It opens with the weight of being a Black man in a country where Michael Brown and George Floyd's deaths made clear how a plea of "I can't breathe" can go unheard, and where Black life so often reads as a threat. The author explains that Black men face this racial trauma while also being portrayed through society's distorted stories about them, and that they rarely have room to heal or grow on their own terms. The journal aims to create that room and guide readers toward wholeness. Over its 45 days, readers take back the telling of their own story, examine how their identity shapes their lives, and build a clearer understanding of the full range of feelings they carry. Its prompts and activities cover topics that Black men seldom stop to consider. The book is intended for Black men aged 16 and up, and it is also suited to gifting to friends, relatives and others in their circle. The author invites readers to follow the movement on Instagram at @breathebrotha.
