Bunheads
About This Book
Young Misty has just fallen for a ballet called Coppélia, the tale of a toymaker who schemes to bring a doll to life, and she is especially taken with its heroine, Swanilda. She wants to audition for the part right away. There is one problem: she has never danced ballet before, and today is the first day of her very first dance class. Misty is thrilled and nervous in equal measure. Surrounded by the other girls in the class, the bunheads, she finds classmates who cheer her on and push her to give her best. As she learns from them, her worries start to fade. With a bit of teamwork, the bunheads come together to stage a performance none of them will forget. The story is inspired by the early ballet experiences of Misty Copeland, the prima ballerina and author, and it opens a series. The illustrations are by newcomer Setor Fiadzigbey. Bunheads is an encouraging picture book for any child who is working up the courage to try something new.
