About this book
Sasha is running on empty. Her inbox is full of messages that insist they are urgent but never are, and her employer keeps pushing staff toward forced cheer. Her friendships have gone quiet, and even small chores like making dinner feel impossible. Determined to recover, she travels to a faded seaside resort she remembers fondly from childhood, hoping to find calm there.
The resort is nearly empty in the off season, its hotel falling apart, and the only other guest is Finn, a short-tempered man who seems just as worn down as she is. They also disagree about how to recover. Sasha wants to try manifesting and wild swimming, while Finn would rather drink whisky and have pizza delivered to the sand.
Then strange notes begin appearing on the beach, apparently meant for the two of them, and they are pushed into conversation. They talk about how they arrived at this point and whether either can recall anything they once loved, which leads them back to an old passion for surfing. Beneath it all sits a question neither can ignore: what is the spark between them, which keeps flaring despite how drained they both are?
