Burt Lancaster

Kate Buford's biography follows Burt Lancaster from his start as a young trapeze performer under the big top to his rise as one of Hollywood's most recognizable leading men. Buford built the account from interviews with the actor's widow, along with the friends and fellow film professionals who worked alongside him.

The book traces the path that took Lancaster from circus life into the film industry, showing how his athletic background shaped the physical screen presence that made him famous. Readers encounter the craft and career choices behind his best-known performances.

Because the portrait relies on people who knew him personally, it offers an intimate view of the man behind the films. It will appeal to film fans and readers interested in classic Hollywood and the performers who shaped it.
