Captains Wanted!

Captains Wanted! mixes metaphysical and literary fiction in a story of mind, body and spiritual healing. Author Andres Schabelman worked at some of Silicon Valley's largest tech companies, then turned to indigenous ceremonial and Western therapeutic practices. The novel draws on his own experiences with them and combines magical realism with literary fiction to offer an experimental take on success and personal growth.

The story asks what happens when people agree to follow a new path, especially one they cannot understand logically. It is built from a series of ceremonial episodes that engage each of the senses, inviting readers to take part in the quest for self-discovery rather than simply watch.

At the end, readers are encouraged to reach their own conclusions about what has happened and to set out on a personal journey, where the meaning unfolds differently for each person.
