Captive Hearts

Frederick Wentworth has come home a naval officer who has done well at sea and returned with a considerable fortune. The neighbours who gather around his sister are eager to celebrate him, but one of them unsettles him. Years ago, Anne Elliot broke her engagement to him, and that act revealed a serious weakness in her character. Now seven and twenty and still unmarried, she has changed in manner and keeps determinedly out of his company. Her behaviour gnaws at his composure and leaves him wondering what lies behind it.

This Regency retelling reimagines Jane Austen's Persuasion. Guided by a newly made friend whom he greatly respects, Wentworth revisits the painful circumstances of their parting and arrives at a surprising new conclusion. Before he can act on that changed resolve, a sudden and grave turn of events places Anne's life in danger.
