Carmilla
About This Book
It is the Lunar New Year in 1990s New York City, and an idealistic social worker discovers that young, homeless LGBTQ+ women are being murdered. No one seems to care, least of all the police, so she begins investigating herself. A trail of clues leads her to Carmilla's, a mysterious nightclub in her own neighborhood of Chinatown. There she falls for the woman who looks like the next victim, and she finds herself at the center of a real-life horror story. She must also face illusions about herself, her life and her hidden past. This graphic novel is inspired by the gothic novel that gave rise to the vampire genre, which predates both Dracula and Nosferatu, and it is layered with dark Chinese folklore. It is a queer, feminist murder mystery about identity, obsession and fateful family secrets.
