Jesse McDermitt's identity fraud case ended in a painful setback in Key West. The man he was pursuing slipped away, and the encounter came close to costing Jesse his life. Back on his home island in the Content Keys, he is focused on protecting the people he loves.

He plans to take his family and friends by plane to the Leeward Islands to mark a special occasion. He does not know that a small, empty island near that destination is the scene of trouble. Before long, a former enemy resurfaces and pulls him back into conflict.

Gold can turn even gentle people greedy and dangerous. When the question of who rightfully owns a treasure valued at an estimated $20,000,000 comes up, lawyers and officials on the island and from France end up in a dispute. Jesse is left asking what a single human life is worth.

Life in paradise is not as simple as it looks. The picturesque town of Gustavia, on the French island of St. Barts, holds its own dangers, and they go well beyond reckless driving on steep mountain roads.
