Castle Diary

Tobias Burgess, an eleven-year-old, keeps a diary of his days inside a medieval castle, giving readers a close-up view of how its residents lived. Along the way he shares practical advice on manners, including where a guest should spit at a banquet, and vivid accounts of hunting, tournaments on horseback, and the autumn harvest.

The book is designed to teach as well as entertain. A glossary, an index, and detailed endnotes help readers look up unfamiliar terms and dig deeper into the period. It is the first title in the Historical Fiction Diaries series.
