About this book
Thirteen-year-old DJ Mackay is still reeling from the sudden death of his father when his mother uproots their family. She takes DJ and his younger sister from Edinburgh to Linicro, a township on the Isle of Skye. DJ hated the thought of leaving his school friends behind, but he understood that his mother needed a new beginning.
When the family arrives in the summer of 1976, DJ is surprised to find himself warming to the cottage and the island. He and his two closest friends, John and James Macdonald, make a habit of exploring Score Bay, a wild and enchanting stretch of coastline. Above it stands Duntulm Castle, and in the castle's shadow sits Castledawn, a large country house that has stood empty since the war.
Inside its crumbling rooms lies a dark secret that someone ought to have left undisturbed. The three boys, oblivious to the peril, step through the doorway, and nothing in their lives will be the same afterward.
