Cat Trick

Kathleen Paulson is happy with her job as the librarian in Mayville Heights, a small town that has a few big worries of its own. Local business owners are hoping to persuade Legacy Tours, a company based in Chicago, to put together a vacation package built around their community. One of the company's partners, Mike Glazer, grew up in town, but the boy people remember has turned into a bossy loudmouth who has managed to irritate nearly everyone, including the local bootlegger.

Then someone silences Mike permanently. Kathleen is the one who finds his body on the boardwalk, and once she has, staying out of the investigation is not something she is able to do. Detective Marcus Gordon, the man she is dating, would much prefer that she leave the case to the police.

Kathleen has help, though, in the form of her two uncommonly gifted cats, Owen and Hercules. With their assistance she sets out to find who is responsible, hoping to see the killer locked away for a long stretch before anyone else in Mayville Heights meets a similar end. Cat Trick is the fourth book in Sofie Kelly's Magical Cats mystery series.
