Changing the Equation

Changing the Equation by Tonya Bolden profiles more than 50 Black women who have made their mark on science, technology, engineering and mathematics in America. The women featured include computer scientists, doctors, inventors, physicists, pharmacists, mathematicians and aviators, among many others. Each one broke through barriers in her field, worked against racial discrimination and opened new ground for those who followed.

The book is written for young readers, and its profiles are meant to offer role models and encourage curiosity and big dreams. Some readers may come away wanting to become STEM leaders themselves. Bolden is an award-winning author. The book closes with endnotes, a bibliography and an index.
