About this book
Fern is a young girl who cannot bear to see a newborn pig killed just because he is the runt of his litter, so she steps in and saves him. The pig, Wilbur, grows up in Zuckerman's barn, where what he wants most is a friend. He finds one in Charlotte, a large and beautiful grey spider.
When Wilbur's future is threatened again, Charlotte decides to help. She spins words into her web, praising him as "Some Pig," "Terrific," "Humble" and "Radiant," and with some much-needed help from Templeton the rat she sets out to change how the farmer sees him. Her web shows the world what she has always seen in Wilbur.
First published in 1952, E. B. White's story has become one of the best-loved children's classics. It is a gentle, funny and moving tale about friendship, love, the passing of seasons and the reality of death, and Charlotte proves a loyal friend right to the end.
