Chaucer

This study takes a close look at four of Chaucer's characters' tales, those of the Miller, the Nun's Priest, the Wife of Bath and the Pardoner, along with the General Prologue. Its aim is to train readers to think more sharply about the text while building their knowledge of a poet who is at once intricate, intriguing and strikingly contemporary in feel.

Both seasoned scholars and students will find material here. Rather than simply presenting conclusions, the book models a range of methods for examining Chaucer's craft, including his handling of style, narrative structure, the many distinct narrative voices he creates, and the central themes that run through his work.
