Class Champion

Mustafa never wins anything. Sam, the teacher's pet, always comes out as the class competition champion. Then Mustafa learns that the prize for the next school project is a pair of tickets to a football game, and this time he is determined to win. This is a contemporary story at Emerald/Band 15 level, a stage where books cover a widening range of genres, including science fiction and biography, and give readers more ways to respond to what they read. A reader response page offers plenty of chances for speaking and listening and helps scaffold writing. Ideas for reading at the back of the book provide practical support and activities for further work.
