The play opens with a speaker who has given up on pushing for social change, a stance they describe as a strange, flawed illusion that let confusion take over their life. They then recount taking a blade to that belief and slicing it open.

Wunmi, a committed activist, is welcomed into the home of a middle-class Black family. The relatives see themselves as the backbone of their community, through charity work, counselling and public office. As they start to grasp what Wunmi stands for, their confidence gives way, unease builds, and a choking dust settles over the room.

Dipo Baruwa-Etti wrote this new play, which opened at the Almeida Theatre in London in September 2022.
