Coffee Boy

Kieran had assumed that after graduation he would spend his days working the grill at a fast food restaurant, so an internship offer from a political campaign felt like a stroke of luck. Being an openly trans man in that workplace soon wears him down, and so does Seth, the campaign's strategist, who has no sense of humor and seems to track every move Kieran makes.

The office does offer one bright spot. Seth is hopelessly pining for their boss, a man who is entirely straight, and Kieran gets a close view of the whole situation. Then Seth proves to be considerate and supportive, even if he remains prickly on the surface. That shift leaves Kieran with a clumsy crush of his own, one that Seth, buttoned-up as he is, will never return.
