Computational Origami
About This Book
Folding paper is usually thought of as a craft, but this book treats origami as a subject for computation. Its basic folding elements are modeled as geometric objects that computers can store, transform, and display, both symbolically and graphically. The author shows how classical and modern geometry problems can be worked out through folding. Each method is developed with careful mathematical reasoning, and the text also aims to build the reader's sense of why a method works by pairing formulas with diagrams. A further thread looks at how to check that a folding procedure does what it claims, using computer software and symbolic computation tools. The volume also includes the binary code for Eos, an origami software system created by the author.
