Constructing Eschatology
About This Book
This study looks closely at the prophecies in Isaiah and sets them beside the prophetic visions of Revelation, asking how the two bodies of material illuminate one another. It is organized around a central inquiry: how far has God predetermined events, particularly those that come before and during the final judgment? The author maintains that the whole of God's grand purpose for humanity is taken up here in full. On this reading God actively decrees what will happen, and every decree will be carried out at the end of history. Isaiah's pattern of punishment and healing serves as the key to his picture of the last things, and the author argues that the complete restoration of Israel amounts to the restoration of all humankind. Theologically, this framework could make room for Christian Universalism.
