CONSTRUCTIONS OF MASCULINITY IN CONTEMPORARY KERALA A STUDY OF THREE POLITICAL SPHERES

This book explores how masculinity and femininity are constructed and performed in India with special focus on Political Parties, Ayurveda Tourism and the Act of Ragging. It highlights how these constructed identities are used as tools of both empowerment and oppression. This work is a product of ethnographic study of the state of Kerala, India, from 2008 to 2012. It is based on inputs and insights of lived experience of people affected by party politics in the state, Ayurveda tourism and the act of ragging. It has a rare combination of theory and practice to know what is happening in these spheres. The book is of significance to academicians, activists and common people interested in gender issues.
