Cousins

Mata, Makareta and Missy are Maori cousins whose childhood was touched by one moment that still sets them apart from ordinary memories. As adults they have taken very different roads, and the hardships each of them meets reflect the realities facing contemporary New Zealand women.

Patricia Grace follows each cousin's circumstances closely, showing how psychological, cultural and political pressures shape and limit the lives they can build. The result is a close, humane portrait of three women whose separate stories are linked by a shared past.
