Credo
About This Book
Credo by Luther Tracy Townsend. This nineteenth-century apologetic argues for the supernatural character of Christian revelation and the inerrancy of the Bible. Townsend surveys prophecies—ancient cities, nations, and Christ’s coming—showing how their fulfillments verify divine inspiration. He treats the Resurrection as a historical miracle witnessed by multiple apostles and argues for Jesus as the God-man, the Second Person of the Trinity, and the central figure of salvation. The book then defends the Trinity, the Spirit’s work, and the reality of Satan, while also addressing memory, conscience, and the afterlife, including the final judgment and the creation of a new heaven and new earth. A consistent theme is the clash between supernatural Christianity and rival worldviews—pantheism, materialism, and modern spiritualism—culminating in a call to faith grounded in revelation, repentance, and ethical living in imitation of Christ. Townsend argues that sinners’ final exclusion is a legitimate moral consequence of rebellion against God.
