Danger Close
About This Book
Danger Close is a memoir by Patrick Byrne, the founder of Overstock.com. It combines his career as an entrepreneur with a hidden life he says he led alongside it. Byrne was named National Entrepreneur of the Year in 2011 and has been called the Messiah of Bitcoin. In August 2019 he made public that he had been working as a secret operative for the U.S. Government. The book recounts his part in what he calls the Russian Collusion Delusion and in the Clinton Investigation, which he presents as deceptions staged for an unsuspecting public. He also describes becoming a national lightning rod: PBS called him a kingpin in 2021, and in August 2022 he was identified as the Department of Homeland Security's top domestic threat. Byrne describes the details of his covert activity and the tension between his public image and his clandestine work. Among the episodes he covers are facilitating a bribe for Hillary Clinton and romancing a Russian spy. He argues these were early pieces of a Deep State soft coup against America that, in his account, ended in the alleged rigging of the 2020 election. The claims are his own, and he uses them to question how business, government and individual truth relate to one another.
