About this book
Dante D'Angelo is the fourth and last of the gentlemen who work to correct injustice through the Order, and this is the first book in the Gentlemen of the Order series. As an eight-year-old, he watched his parents murdered, and in the years since he has been tracking the person responsible. Serving as an enquiry agent for the Order gives him cover to run private investigations of his own.
While looking into a fraud case, Dante discovers a connection between the suspect and the devil who killed his parents. He is determined to pursue the villain, but he runs into a complication in the form of a golden-haired woman. The Order's first female agent, Beatrice Sands, has been assigned the same case. She has a deeply personal reason for joining the Order and needs an alliance with Dante to help him find the killer. She soon learns that he is as dangerous as he is handsome, that bitterness has taken hold of him, and that his composure hides a great deal of pain. To earn his trust, she must prove she is a worthy agent.
As they work together, their friendship deepens into an intense attraction. Beatrice wonders whether she can heal his wounded heart. The book asks whether a man who has known only pain is capable of love, and whether there is any hope for the future when a man is prepared to die for his cause.
