About This Book
In response to the mobilization of a large-scale Chinese amphibious force U.S. carrier strike groups join warships from ally nations in the international waters surrounding Taiwan. As the lead carrier strike group approaches the Taiwan Strait, China launches a hypersonic missile offensive while simultaneously dumping their stockpile of U.S. bonds in concert with Russia and allies in the Middle East; economic chaos spreads and frenzied nations follow suit dumping their bonds causing a snowball effect, destabilizing the world economy as a run on the dollar ensues. Interest rates spike, supply chains are devastated, availability of food and medical supplies fall to dangerous levels, prices skyrocket, and chaos spreads. Executive orders are issued instituting a digital currency and government takeover of all forms of commerce, agricultural production, energy production, health resources and communications, including cell and internet providers. Meanwhile Mark Slade, a disillusioned lawyer who has abandoned the corrupt Washington politics to open a classic car shop in a sleepy bayfront town in Maryland, is enjoying his new life away from the duplicitous atmosphere of D.C. But all that is about to change as the new police state unfolds; after a violent confrontation with soldiers of the new authority Mark escapes to Texas, a state that refuses to implement the new executive orders. He joins Governor James Freeman in leading states refusing to institute the authoritarian decrees and secede from the union to form the American Republic, built strictly on the constitution and free market principles. The remaining states form the New Democratic Society, NDS, and huddle under the security of a global collective instituting policies to reset economic and social foundations. While the American Republic becomes a leading economic power the NDS, mired in policing its citizen’s personal and financial activity, begins to experience food and energy shortages. Desperate, governors from the NDS seek to join the American Republic. China, holding large amounts of land and debt in NDS states, instructs its leader to quell these attempts by any means necessary, and sends its military for support.
