Darkness Drops Again

Maeve Shaw is a 39-year-old attorney whose life looks flawless from the outside. Her husband, Patrick, is a senior manager at a prestigious consulting firm, and the two are raising their sons, Declan and Seamus. At her law firm, a male-dominated workplace, Maeve believes her best chance at becoming a partner depends on logging enough billable hours and keeping her opinions to herself.

Then the order she has built starts to give way. She begins to suspect her marriage is not what it seems, and a new case at the office stirs up buried memories from her own childhood. Hoping to save her marriage while keeping those old demons hidden, Maeve attempts a precarious balancing act that leaves her more exposed than she has ever been. As darkness overtakes her once again, she starts to wonder whether everything she has worked for could come crashing down.

Blending twisting plot turns with grounded scenes of family life and motherhood, the book is a sexy crime thriller with a legal setting. Readers who enjoy the work of Liane Moriarty and Celeste Ng may find its mix of domestic pressure and suspense appealing.
