Darling

Wendy Darling has barely unpacked in Chicago when a boy named Peter turns up outside her bedroom window. Charming and hard to look away from, he talks her into slipping out with him for a night on the town. She assumes they are headed to a party, but the evening takes her down into the city's tunnels beneath the streets.

Down there she meets Tinkerbelle, a rebellious punk girl, and a band of lost boys under Peter's watch. She also picks up dangerous rivals. Detective Hook is a frightening presence, and Peter himself may not be who he seems as his hidden secrets begin to surface. Wendy has to find the nerve to get through the night and to get everyone else through it too.

Ancrum, author of The Wicker King and The Weight of the Stars, reshapes J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan for contemporary readers. The story is built to upend the version of the classic many people carry with them, so familiar expectations may not hold.
