David Bergelson

Joseph Sherman's study takes a fresh look at David Bergelson's body of work, questioning the standard assessments that have long been applied to him. Rather than focusing on a single period or book, it considers everything he produced, placing his career within a single frame of analysis.

The volume combines several parts. It opens with a full-length biography of Bergelson, followed by the first comprehensive bibliography of his writings. It also includes English translations of two of his essays that had a major influence, both of which lay out his artistic program.
