Dead Ice

Anita Blake is engaged to Jean-Claude, the master vampire of St. Louis, and the engagement has done her tough-as-nails image no favors. Where the dead are concerned, though, her standing hasn't slipped. She is still the person the authorities call when zombies cause trouble, and this time the FBI has a problem that only she is likely to understand. Someone is making pornography with reanimated corpses. Anita has run into plenty of strange habits among people who deal with the undead, and she doesn't expect this to shake her. What changes her mind is the discovery that the victims are not empty, decaying bodies. Each woman's soul is still inside, trapped and aware behind her eyes. That is the mark of voodoo at its darkest, and it means whoever is behind the films has gone far beyond exploiting the dead. Dead Ice is an installment in the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series by Laurell K. Hamilton. The case is the kind that stays with an investigator, and as Anita digs into it, the cost may be her own soul.
