Definitely Dead

Maya Barton has finally started work as a scene of crime officer (SOCO), and her first case is a death that the post-mortem records as non-suspicious, so the file is shut. Maya is unconvinced. With nothing concrete to point to, she is sure that someone was responsible. The author draws on her own time working as a SOCO.

Meanwhile, the police are focused on bringing a criminal gang to justice. When Maya is sent to another unexplained death, her doubts resurface. She believes a killer is active and has so far escaped detection. Her string of errors, however, leaves the people she works with increasingly frustrated, and as she and her colleagues dig deeper into their inquiries, all of them are placed in serious peril.

The novel also follows Maya's own past, which threatens to catch up with her. Readers are left to wonder whether she can track down the killer and leave her history behind, and which of the people around her can be trusted.
